প্র্যাকটিস › Refrigeration & Air Conditioning › Refrigeration Basics: Ton of Refrigeration, COP and Capacity Calculations

A refrigerated store is supplied with 30 tonnes of fish at 27 °C. The fish has to be cooled to −9 °C for long-period preservation, the cooling taking 10 hours. The specific heat of fish is 2.93 kJ/kg·K above its freezing point and 1.26 kJ/kg·K below it; the freezing point is −3 °C and the latent heat of freezing is 232 kJ/kg. Find (i) the capacity of the plant in TR (1 TR = 210 kJ/min), (ii) the ideal COP between this temperature range (27 °C and −9 °C), and (iii) the power required (in kW) if the actual COP is 40 % of the ideal.
